Background

On September 27, Greenville County was deeply impacted by Hurricane Helene as it traveled through the Western Carolinas. This impact has resulted in lengthy power outages, food instability for community members, limited operational capacity for local nonprofit organizations, and increased vulnerability for segments of our population. On September 30, 2024, United Way of Greenville County (UWGC) launched the UWGC Community Relief Fund aimed to address the immediate and long-term needs of the Greenville Community.

Purpose and Areas of Focus

Using a phased approach, the fund will supplement and accelerate immediate relief efforts while also addressing long-term recovery. Disbursement of the fund will be informed by data collected through United Way’s 2-1-1 response line, which provides real-time insight on the most pressing needs community members are facing. In addition, insight from direct service providers and community members will also dictate the direction of the fund as community needs evolve.

Based on a collaborative community effort and information surrounding the rapidly evolving community needs, the fund is aimed to support local nonprofit organizations accomplish the following:

  • Provide housing stabilization, prevent risk of displacement, and/or minimize economic losses for low-income community members (ex. rental, mortgage, utilities assistance due to loss of wages or lost employment).
  • Provide intermediate health and wellness support and build resiliency for individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene (ex. medical/prescription losses or needs due to power outages or other impacts of the hurricane, mental health service accessibility, food and basic necessities).
  • Enhance resiliency and future preparedness for nonprofit organizations.

Please fill out the application details and submit it to be considered for the Hurricane Helene Emergency Relief funding.
