To view and start an application, click on any available opportunities listed below. You can also access an application by clicking the Apply button. This will not submit the application at this point – only access it.
After clicking on an opportunity below, you will be prompted to log into the Submittable platform. If you have already created an account, simply enter your credentials and log in. If you have not created an account, click the “Sign Up” tab and create a free account. After signing up, you will be prompted to verify your email – the system will send you an email at the email address you signed up with. Once verified, you can click the “proceed to the form” link on the screen.
You can now view the application in its entirety. Progress will be saved automatically, but you can also use the “Save Draft” button located at the bottom of the application form. Please note that UWGC cannot see any of your application answers until the application has been submitted.
You can access your in-progress application at any time by returning to the site and signing back into your account. Please note that your application is NOT final until you complete all of the fields, check the attestation box, enter your name, and click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the application. Once submitted you will not be able to update your application.
Since 1999, United Way of Greenville County’s African American Leadership (AAL)group has invested in the future of Greenville through scholarships that support academic excellence, leadership and community impact. The scholarships also carry forward the legacy of two influential African American leaders, Judge F. Merl Code and Marvin Monroe Ward, whose commitment to community continues to shape opportunities for future generations.
Scholarship Details
- Scholarships will be provided in the amount of $5,000 each, totaling $40,000 for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Funds will be released directly to the institution the student is attending. If a student is awarded funds for books or other program supplies, United Way staff will make separate arrangements with the student.
Eligibility:
- Be a graduating high school senior during the 2025–2026 academic year
- Reside in Greenville County, South Carolina
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (unofficial transcript accepted)
- Plan to pursue a degree, certification or trade at an accredited institution
- Be an emerging African American leader in Greenville County
- These requirements apply whether applying for the scholarship, pitch competition or both.
